As we continue to celebrate our 10th year, we are delighted to present Jingletown Originals.  This group show features artists who have lived and created art in the first live/work building in Jingletown, honoring this rich artistic history that spans almost 4 decades. This exhibit commemorates the fourth decade since the inception of the first live-work building for artists in Oakland’s Jingletown Community.  The artists featured in the show - either current or former residents - of this original building helped pave the way for this distinctive, flourishing arts community. In addition to carving physical spaces in which to work, artist communities forge relationships that encourage the commitment needed to make art. The artists showcased in Jingletown Originals bring to the exhibition four decades of this type of shared support, while maintaining a diversity of style, medium and philosophy. The experiences of living in this artist work/live building provided support and encouragement from informal critiques and discussions. Jingletown Originals celebrates the enduring friendships and honors the intellectual sense of place and creativity that were forged in our building – which is now the home of Gray Loft Gallery.  The exhibit also speaks to the significant role that living in this celebrated Jingletown community has had on these artists living and working in the Bay Area.Participating Artists:Suzy Barnard, Daniel Baum, , Betty Jo Costanzo, Josh Greenberg, Ake Grunditz, Leslie Frierman Grunditz, Kyung Lee, Stacey Mackey, Sue Matthews, Lynn McGeever, Dorie Meister, Susan Parish, Russ Osterweil, Amy Sollins, Michael Stewart, Styrous, Jan Watten, Tom White and Karyn Yandow.       Show Dates: September 24 – October 29, 2022Closing Reception: Saturday, October 29, 3:00 – 6:00 pm Examples of works in the show:

ABOUT  GRAY  LOFT  GALLERY
Gray Loft Gallery has promoted the rich art culture of Jingletown and the greater Bay Area for 10 years. The gallery has been referred to as a hidden gem in Jingletown, and noted by the late Kenneth Baker, former SF Chronicle Art Critic, in his Visual Arts Don’t Miss Column as “…A space gaining prominence in the Bay Area…”   The mission of the gallery is to provide exhibition opportunities for artists in a setting that is an alternative to the traditional gallery model. We hope to inspire, engage and celebrate artists in our community and beyond.  We acknowledge the achievements of emerging, mid-career and established artists – with an emphasis on those who live and work in the Bay Area – in a non-traditional art space. A number of artists began their art career at Gray Loft Gallery. “I have always enjoyed this gallery, superb atmosphere and lighting. The polished and worn hardwood floors creek slightly in places as you climb to the third floor, providing a granular and unique, organic aesthetic. This is a do-not-miss venue in the East Bay.”  –  Facebook ReviewGray Loft Gallery has received "Best Art Gallery" in the Oakland Magazine's Readers Choice Award in 2016, 2017, 2021 and voted one of five top art galleries in 2022.

About the Gray Loft Gallery...

Founded in 2012, the gallery has been referred to as a hidden gem in Jingletown and noted by Kenneth Baker, SF Chronicle, in his Visual Arts Don’t Miss Column as “…A space gaining prominence in the Bay Area…” The mission of the gallery is to provide exhibition opportunities for artists in a setting that is an alternative to the traditional gallery model. We hope to inspire, engage and celebrate artists in our community and beyond.  We acknowledge the achievements of emerging, mid-career and established artists – with an emphasis on those who live and work in the Bay Area, in a non-traditional art space.

We believe that ART is a wonderful vehicle for communication, community building and inspiration.  We want to encourage the appreciation and interest in the arts by presenting work in a non-exclusive, welcoming, professional and fun environment.  We hope to cultivate the belief that art is for everyone, and that art belongs in our community at large, not just in traditional gallery and museum environments.

The Gallery is a unique venue located on the 3rd floor of one of Oakland’s oldest artists’ work/live warehouses in the historic artist district Jingletown.
