PURPLE!  is the 7th in a series of annual color themed photo exhibits at Gray Loft Gallery.  On view in this group show are images that capture the beauty, emotion, and symbolism of the color purple — an iconic hue historically associated with royalty, mystery, spirituality, and creativity. Purple holds a special place in our visual and emotional spectrum, carrying a myriad of meanings and emotions. We are excited to present this visually stunning photo exhibit, dedicated to exploring the various dimensions of purple captured through the medium of photography.

ABOUT  GRAY  LOFT  GALLERY
Gray Loft Gallery has promoted the rich art culture of Jingletown and the greater Bay Area for 12 years. The gallery has been referred to as a hidden gem in Jingletown, and noted by the late Kenneth Baker, former SF Chronicle Art Critic, in his Visual Arts Don’t Miss Column as “…A space gaining prominence in the Bay Area…”   The mission of the gallery is to provide exhibition opportunities for artists in a setting that is an alternative to the traditional gallery model. We hope to inspire, engage and celebrate artists in our community and beyond.  We acknowledge the achievements of emerging, mid-career and established artists – with an emphasis on those who live and work in the Bay Area – in a non-traditional art space.  We are proud that many artists began their art career at Gray Loft Gallery.

“I have always enjoyed this gallery, superb atmosphere and lighting. The polished and worn hardwood floors creek slightly in places as you climb to the third floor, providing a granular and unique, organic aesthetic. This is a do-not-miss venue in the East Bay.”  –  Facebook Review

Gray Loft Gallery has received "Best Art Gallery" in the Oakland Magazine's Readers Choice Award in 2016, 2017, 2021 and voted one of five top art galleries in 2022 and 2023.

Closing Reception of Beyond The Frame

Closing tomorow!
Please join us in celebrating this stellar exhibit!
Please scroll down for details about our current exhibit,
reviews and events in the gallery!

You are cordially invited to the Closing Reception of
Beyond The Frame
A Celebration of Large-Scale Art
Saturday, March 8, 4:00 – 6:30 pm.
The gallery will be open at 2:30 if you want to stop by early

Join us at the reception and meet the artists in the show!
The featured artists bring diverse perspectives to painting—ranging from non-representational to figurative—each delving deeply into their unique artistic processes and personal inspirations. Their artistic philosophies encompass a broad spectrum whose approaches vary widely yet share a common emphasis on transformation.

These values include works that allow sensations to evolve into form, as well as pieces envisioned as arenas where light and gesture converge to create vibrant, evocative compositions. Some of the painting on view emerge from an atmosphere of shadow and shape, capturing a sense of fluidity and potential, while others respond to the sensual and seductive qualities of life, striving to convey those emotions through art. These works aim to transport viewers through images, sounds, and emotions, recreating profound and transformative sensations.
