This exhibit is part of the SF Bay Month of Photography event held in September throughout the Bay Area. See more about MOP here.
We
hope you will join us for the closing reception of the exceptional solo
exhibit of photographs by artist Karyn Yandow. Karyn’s sublime and
surreal images use nature as a metaphor to explore human spirituality
and connectedness. Her hauntingly beautiful and dreamy photographs weave
a common thread throughout her imagery that reflects on the poignant
meditative beauty of spirituality, loss, fragility and hope that reaches
beyond the eyes and into the soul. She seeks out sensuous and
ephemeral botanical imagery that is a symbol for the transcendent and
intimate moments in our lives.
Karyn was born a fraternal twin in the Bronx, New York and graduated from the San Francisco Art Institute with a BFA in printmaking. Although she is a self-taught photographer, she was greatly influenced by her maternal grandparents who were documentary and fine art photographers. Karyn has exhibited her photography in San Francisco and the Bay Area for over 25 years at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Berkeley Art Center, Gray Loft Gallery, Gallery Route One, Falkirk Cultural Center, CIIS, Sebastopol Center for the Arts, Bolinas Art Museum, Sanchez Art Center, and the Center for Photographic Art in Carmel.

ABOUT GRAY LOFT GALLERY
Gray
Loft Gallery - voted "Best Art Gallery" two years in a row - 2016
& 2017 - in the Oakland Magazine Readers' Choice Award - has
promoted the rich art culture of Jingletown and the greater Bay Area for
5 years. The gallery has been referred to as a hidden gem in
Jingletown, and noted by Kenneth Baker, former SF Chronicle Art Critic,
in his Visual Arts Don’t Miss Column as “…A space gaining
prominence in the Bay Area…†The mission of the gallery is to
provide exhibition opportunities for artists in a setting that is an
alternative to the traditional gallery model. We hope to inspire, engage
and celebrate artists in our community and beyond. We acknowledge the
achievements of emerging, mid-career and established artists – with an
emphasis on those who live and work in the Bay Area – in a
non-traditional art space. A number of artists began their art career at
Gray Loft Gallery.
“I have always enjoyed this gallery, superb atmosphere and lighting. The polished and worn hardwood floors creek slightly in places as you climb to the third floor, providing a granular and unique, organic aesthetic. This is a do-not-miss venue in the East Bay.†– Facebook Review
