Learn how to make beautiful artist books by veteran bookmakers
Stephanie Williamson and Laurie Wagner, who are passionate about
bookmaking and have collaborated on numerous bookmaking workshops in the
past.
Using actual books - flea market finds, cast-offs from
used bookstores or children’s dictionaries from the 1940’s, vintage text
books, an outdated atlas, old novels or how-to books. The books are the
bones of the fabulous works of art we will create using collage,
photos, paint, stencils, and assemblage, among many other techniques. We
will incorporate some of the existing text or illustrations in our
found books and add our own words and images to create gorgeous, mind
blowing pieces.
You do not have to be an artist to
create an altered book, although many artists working in different media
find it a wonderful way to experiment with new materials and jump-start
their inspiration. You just need to be someone who loves color, loves
the shape of books, and loves getting messy with new art materials.
You will learn several specific techniques such as torn window
collage….tags and envelopes…accordion books within the book, …woven
paper, niches and wells, stamping and stencils. We will have lots of
supplies to create and play.
By the end of the day you will
leave with a gorgeous altered book that you can take home to continue
building on to create a finished project.
More information about the workshop and a materials list will be emailed to you upon request and/or registration.
Class size is limited. Please register soon to participate in this
creative and fun workshop with these two dynamic instructors.
